A Good Day

If I am not mistaken, I believe it was in Viking society it was said upon facing a battle they were certain to lose, that "this is a good day to die in battle" was mentioned. The Viking leader would rather die in battle than to be taken prisoner by the enemy into servitude and possible certain death anyway. Reflecting on that premise, I like to just give it a new spin for those faint of heart or who just need an encouraging word:

This is a good day to die in battle if need be for the cause of Christ and a better day to live in victory carrying out his plan and living for His glory. One may think, isn't that a bit radical? Well, in this day and age, being radical has it's place but not to the degree of hurting someone else just because they disagree with you. The radical I'm talking about refers to the saying that "if you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything." This statement goes back to some of the older values many of us grew up with. In retrospect, I think we can all agree that being wise is much better than being foolish. And as far as dying in battle, the source I am referring to is the sacrifice of Christ, laying down His life so that we may live. In the gospel of St. John, it states "No greater love than this than a man has to lay down his life for his friends." We 'die' for so many things, compromise our standards for that which is only temporary when laying up treasures in heaven is so much more important! Because believe it our not, that is where we will spend the bulk of our time living, in eternity. So in short, let's make our steps count more so. There's no point in going out to the mailbox in a blizzard if you've already gotten the mail beforehand. Why not call up an old friend and make their day, run a necessary errand for an elderly person in that same blizzard or make some hot chocolate though you really don't feel like it for your child who just shoveled the driveway without asking. Reflect on God's goodness. Because after all, He thought we were all worth 'fighting' and dying for.

Have a good day!
